Accessibilities Coordinator

Position Summary and Responsibilities

The Accessibilities Coordinator is responsible for providing timely, reasonable, and effective accommodations for students with disabilities. As the individual responsible for assisting the College in upholding disability compliance with state and federal regulations, they must have a solid working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as they relate to students with disabilities and the ability to determine reasonable accommodations. The Accessibilities Coordinator will play a pivotal role in supporting students with disabilities to ensure their academic persistence and success at the college and will contribute to fostering a positive learning environment for all faculty and staff. Responsibilities
  • Provide direct service for students seeking disability-related accommodations, academic adjustments, and program modifications to achieve equal opportunity in the programs, services, and activities of the College;
  • Organize and plan for the provision of disability-related services such as extended test time, note-takers, alternate text formats, and assistive technology;
  • Evaluate, interpret, and manage disability-related documentation and interact with students to determine appropriate academic accommodations, program modifications, and services for students in a higher education setting;
  • Maintain confidential student files;
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to ensure accommodations are fully implemented;
  • Promote students’ academic, artistic, and personal growth in a way consistent with the college's mission
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required;
  • Master’s degree in education, counseling, behavioral science, or related field preferred.
Experience
  • Experience working with individuals, preferably in a post-secondary environment;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mobility, learning, attention, psychiatric, cognitive, neurological, medical, and sensory disabilities, of disability laws as they pertain to higher education, and of services, academic
    adjustments, and other needs of students with disabilities;
  • Current knowledge of law, policy, practice, and theory on the full range of disability services in higher education;
  • Demonstrated experience implementing the use of assistive technology;
  • Demonstrated advocacy for student concerns and community outreach;
  • Knowledge and experience in the holistic development of college students.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, decision-making, and organizational skills;
  • High personal performance standards and personal integrity;
  • Ability to collaborate with staff on assessment and evaluation projects;
  • Conduct outreach and educational training on campus, which will include developing and delivering training materials about specific disabilities for staff, faculty, and students;
  • Sensitivity to and understanding the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnic, and other backgrounds of today’s college students.
Compensation

This part-time position offers up to 20 hours a week for the Academic Year (mid-July to early mid-June).

The position pays $28.00 per hour.
