Transcript Requests

The Office of Registration and Academic Advising is pleased to offer our students and alumni copies of official transcripts regarding their accomplishments here at Maine College of Art & Design.

Transcripts are official documents of the college and as such various offices on campus must approve them before they can be released. We acknowledge that transcript requests are often an important and time sensitive inquiry and so we strive to turn them around in 3–5 business days.

Independent Study & Internships

Independent Study

Wanting to learn about a subject that's unavailable in MECA&D's curriculum? Independent Study allows you to develop a course, working one-on-one with a faculty member to earn academic credit.

Students in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of study, with an overall GPA of 3.0 (B) or above, and no more than one Incomplete pending may apply for an independent study. The student is responsible for creating a proposal and finding a faculty member willing to serve as an instructor or sponsor for the project. An independent study cannot be used to resolve schedule conflicts. This applies to both major and elective courses. An independent study is not available for replacing or making up required courses, e.g. Art History, Foundation courses, etc.

Internships

Internship opportunities are available for academic credit, with credits applied toward Studio Elective requirements. Students may pursue Internships during the academic year or over the summer.

Enrollment

Verification of Enrollment

Students seeking an enrollment verification letter may request one by emailing registrar@meca.edu.

Non-Matriculated Enrollment

Students seeking to take individual courses at MECA&D who are not otherwise enrolled in a BFA, MAT, MFA, or Salt program but who are seeking credits for their coursework may apply for Non-Matriculated Enrollment.

Re-Admission

Students who have previously attended Maine College of Art & Design, subsequently withdrew in good academic standing, and have been gone for four semesters or less may request re-admission to the College by contacting the Office of Registration & Academic Advising.

Students who have been away from the college for more than four semesters must reapply for admission by submitting the following to registrar@meca.edu.

  • Application for Re-Admission
  • Personal statement describing how your time away from MECA&D has been spent, and why you now wish to return
  • Transcripts of any college work completed in the intervening time must be submitted at the time of reapplication

GPACU Cross-Registration

Cross-registration benefits students at Greater Portland Alliance of Colleges and Universities (GPACU) member schools by expanding the number and kinds of courses available to them. Cross-registration supplements the course offerings at each member school, so that students may take courses that would not otherwise be available to them.

FAQs
When can I enroll in GPACU courses?

Courses at member colleges are available for enrollment during the fall and spring semesters. Cross-registration is available to MECA&D students during winter or summer terms.

How do I register?
  • Find a course you’re interested in taking and complete a GPACU form
  • Give the form to the Registrar’s office of your college
  • Your form will be faxed over to the Host College
  • You will be notified if you are placed into the course Enrollment is on a space-available basis.
What about course prerequisites?

The student must meet course prerequisites (or equivalents) set by the Host school.

Where do I pay for the class I am taking at another college?
  • The tuition for a GPACU course is paid to your Home institution.
  • Course Fees, laboratory fees and/or materials fees are paid to the Host institution. You will receive a bill in the mail from the host institution. Course fees must be paid-in-full to receive a grade in the course.
  • The student must pay any fee imposed by the Host institution on all its students. i.e. parking fee, computer lab fee.
How many courses can I take through GPACU?

Each student is limited to three courses per year and a total of five over the period of the student’s undergraduate studies.
