Animation & Game Art Students Connect with Industry Professionals

MECA&D students had the chance to have their portfolios reviewed by Warner Brothers, Walt Disney Studios. Adult Swim, 20th TV Animation, amongst other artists and recruiters

MECA&D Students in our Animation & Game Art program had the chance to have their portfolios reviewed by some of the world's leading studios, artists, and designers! Recruiters and artists from Warner Brothers Studios, Walt Disney Studios, 20th TV Animation, Adult Swim, along with other studios and freelancers, joined our students for virtual portfolio reviews last week.

These reviews brought the Animation & Game Art industry to our students, enabling them to receive invaluable feedback and build their network without leaving Portland, Maine. Mia Kashiwabara ’26. who met with a recruiter from Warner Brothers, reflected on the experience, “Not only do portfolio reviews help me improve my work, but they also introduce me to others in the industry and help me gain a better understanding of what it's like to work in animation. Every review makes me feel more prepared for pursuing my career post-graduation.”

This opportunity was put together by Artists at Work and the Animation & Game Art Department. Adam Fisher, Program Chair of Animation & Game Art, told us, "Our goal in running this event is to give our students a chance to meet real people who are doing the work they hope to step into as professionals. This benefits them in several ways... most immediately, they get new eyes on their work and feedback they can implement now as they build their portfolios. They are also making contacts, beginning their professional networks, and gaining interview-style experience. Perhaps the biggest benefit is that suddenly they realize that the people working in games and animation are just real folks like the rest of us.”
