Maine College of Art & Design is in the process of redesigning aspects of our Bachelor of Fine Arts program to address student enrollment trends. We want our students to continue to learn at the intersections of craft, fine art, and design while integrating emerging technologies, materials, and techniques into their learning experiences.
Across the country, art and design schools have experienced growing enrollments in design and media areas and flat or declining enrollments in craft and fine art areas, and Maine College of Art & Design is no different. Therefore, we have made the difficult decision to no longer offer Metalsmithing & Jewelry, Printmaking, and Woodworking & Furniture Design as stand-alone majors at Maine College of Art and Design. Beginning in Fall 2025, new students will have the opportunity to select one of eight majors: Animation & Game Art, Ceramics, Graphic Design, Illustration, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, and Textile & Fashion Design.
Faculty and staff are collaborating to ensure our print, metals, and woodworking studio areas remain vibrant areas of study where students can access courses, facilities, and our amazing faculty in a way that best supports a post-graduate professional career in art and design.
