Printmaking Students Collaborate with Maine Students Vote

Printmaking majors at Maine College of Art & Design partnered with Maine Students Vote, an organization that supports campuses and schools in developing voter education materials, organizational action planning, training and mentoring civic leaders and coordinating get-out-the-vote efforts. MECA&D printmaking majors created materials to distribute at college campuses throughout the state of Maine to engage and encourage college students to vote.

Students referenced printed materials used for political messaging and propaganda and read Omkari William’s book, Micro-Activism: How You Can Make a Difference in the World without a Bullhorn. They responded to the prompt, "How can we get students informed and excited to register and vote?".

When Allyson Gardiner, the director of Maine Students Vote, heard about the project, she reached out to Professor Evelyn Wong to offer help in distributing the materials even further than the MECA&D campus to schools all across the state of Maine.

The students created silkscreen and letterpress prints, postcards, posters, tote bags, and stickers for the organization.
